WordPress in Full Throttle

OK! Now that we all have WP installed on our servers, we are going forward at a good rate of speed. In yesterday’s class, we started on Custom Pages and Custom Queries. This means that we can grab content from different parts of the site and display it in 2 instances on 1 page. Perhaps we can have more than 2 instances. I don’t know yet. I am still studying it.

The homework is to finger all that out. I have not posted homework in a while, in the class-blog, but I don’t really think it matters too much, as long as I am up to speed with everything we’ve learned

This is all very fascinating, but I am not sure where this is going to go, as far as this website is concerned. Because one of the main things is how the heck am I going to implement everything into it. Hekk… I’m not even sure what kind of content I am going to have in here period.

Apparently, all this content goes into a “database” somewhere on the server and is stored, for the life of the database. This post is number 42, meaning that it is the 42nd thing ever created here. Yesterday, I asked the teacher about it and he said, “Yes. Every page is unique and cannot be changed from, say, p=42”. p=42 is the generated page identification.

I think it is very possible that I can come back to this post and edit it. I’m not really sure yet, as this is all still pretty new to me, but it seems that I could, from what I’ve learned so far.

Yesterday’s class started out in room 09 of The Humanities Building. That is a conference room where Zac holds his monthly meet up called “Refresh Rockville”. I had been to one of them, in that room, before, that my 1st teacher, Lil, spoke at.
Zac had a speaker come, last night, that he met at a web-conference in San Francisco. His name is Joshua and he is from this area. I talked to him for a bit and he seemed very cool. He, too, is a product of the 80’s. He talked about ExpressionEngine 2.0. Apparently, EE is a successor of WordPress, but costs money. The cost is reflected on the ease of use. So, apparently, it is much better than WP. “You get what you pay for”, quoted Joshua.

So, anyway… This is my very first official post in my very own site. Hopefully this site will evolve into something that the human race can benefit from.

That’s it for now.
